This week I’ve reflected on the simple days of homeschooling we’ve experienced through the years… we’ve learned so much from books and nature study. One of the significant benefits of homeschooling is the freedom of time. While it requires self-discipline, once you have a rhythm, learning at home is for the entire family. I learn right alongside my children. In fact, I’ve learned more as a homeschool mom than I did in college. Charlotte Mason’s philosophies changed my life.

If you are new to nature study, the first book I recommend and reference in my nature calendars is Anna Botsford Comstock’s Handbook of Nature Study.
Written for teachers who knew little about nature study, Comstock’s lessons speak directly to the teacher and include a “leading thought” for lesson plans.
